Introduction:Since early 1900s, Radio has been the bedrock technology that led to the evolution of a gamut of electronic goods from television to cell phones.With technological advancement, radio transformed into various forms. However, even with all these technological improvements, listeners were still unable to listen to their favorite programs at their convenience and had to depend on radio stations to broadcast the same. In August 2004, Adam Curry, a former MTV-VJ-turned entrepreneur from the US, developed a software called iPodder that allowed audiophiles to auto download audio files onto their iPods or PCs from websites of their choice and listen to it at their convenience. This phenomenon came to be known as Podcasting.With almost no barriers to entry, Podcasting encourages individuals to build their own radio stations or become Podcasters, by playing music or sharing their opinions over the Internet to a large audience across the world. The reach is estimated to be at least 10,000 listeners for a particular podcast or an audio program. By February 2005, the number of Podcasts increased from 36 to more than 4000 on the web. Although this represents a testimony to the growth of modern radio technology, experts in the radio industry opine that Podcasting could be a threat to the traditional radio.
